KidSafePC privacy policy

Effective date: 2026-10-01 (version 1.1)

KidSafePC is a Windows application that gives children a safe full-screen Kids Mode with a filtered kids browser, built-in learning games and apps approved by a parent. This policy explains what the application does with data. In short: everything is processed on your computer, and nothing about you or your child is sent to us or to anyone else.

"We" means KidSafePC Team, the publisher of KidSafePC.

What the application stores on your computer

All of the following stays on the computer where KidSafePC is installed. We have no servers that receive it, and we cannot see it.

What leaves your computer

KidSafePC itself connects to the internet for two things only:

  1. Filter list downloads. To know which sites to block, the application downloads public, openly published filter lists (for example, the community-maintained blocklists hosted on GitHub, raw.githubusercontent.com) about once a day. These are ordinary file downloads: like any download, they reveal your computer's IP address to the server that hosts the list. No information about you, your child or your use of the application is sent with them.
  2. The kids browser's own browsing. When your child opens a website in the kids browser, that website receives the request, exactly as with any other browser, and its own privacy policy applies. Searches typed into the address bar go to the search engine (DuckDuckGo by default) with SafeSearch enforced. The filtering itself happens on your computer: each request of the kids browser is checked locally, and blocked requests never leave the computer.

The kids browser is based on Microsoft Edge WebView2, a Windows component provided and updated by Microsoft; Microsoft's privacy statement applies to that component.

Nothing else is sent anywhere. KidSafePC has no user accounts, no cloud, no analytics or telemetry, no crash reporting, no advertising and no in-app purchases. We do not sell, share or disclose any data, because we do not receive any.

Children's privacy

KidSafePC is made for families and is used by children in Kids Mode. We do not collect, use or disclose personal information from children, in line with the US Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR, including Article 8). The only information about a child's activity, the 7-day browsing journal, stays on the family's computer and is visible only to the parent with the PIN. Websites that a child visits in the kids browser are third parties; the filter and the parent's lists decide which of them can be opened. The built-in games work offline and contain no ads, chat or purchases.

Your choices and control

Because all data stays on your device and we never receive it, you can access, correct and delete it directly on the computer; there is no data held by us to request.

Security

Settings, the PIN hash and the journal are protected by Windows file permissions (SYSTEM and administrators only). The parent window and the kids screen talk to the KidSafePC service over a local, access-controlled channel; every change of settings requires the parent PIN.

This website

These pages set no cookies, use no analytics or visit counters and load nothing from other servers: fonts, images and scripts all come from this site. The web server may keep ordinary access logs (IP address, time, requested page and browser type) for security and troubleshooting; they are not used to track visitors.

If you use the contact form, you voluntarily send us your name, e-mail address, message, chosen site language, IP address and browser user-agent. We use this information only to answer your request, prevent abuse and diagnose delivery problems. Messages are stored on our server for up to 90 days and then deleted. They are not combined with application data, sold or used for marketing. You may instead write to support@kidsafepc.com.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the new version is published at the same address with a new effective date.
